Get Some Cardboard Boxes the British GP is moving!

By The Editor | July 4, 2008

Yes it has been announced today that from 2010 the British GP will move to Donnington Park after 22 years at Silverstone. Apparently there have been rumours for a few weeks about something, however today it was announced by Bernie Ecclestone, whilst at Silverstone, that a deal had been signed and sealed!

Donnington will be receiving £100 million of investments to bring it up to modern F1 standards which will be sorely needed because even the motoGP guys have been complaining about the facilities there in recent years. Having experienced racing on both tracks I think Donnington will be an excellent circuit for F1 as it has a couple of more open sections but a great tight and twisty section with the Melbourne loop on the back. The main worry that I would have about the area is the access to the venue. Silverstone has done a lot of improvement around it’s circuit in the road network, Donnington is still quite remote, further away from the capital (and many of the Team’s factories) and hard to access. Silverstone is a much longer circuit which spreads the cars out on the long sweeping areas of the track, I would hope that Donnington, with the reduction in aero as well, will allow the cars to race closer together.

I really enjoyed my time at the Silverstone circuit earlier this year, the facilities are better by far than Donnington’s current ones, but Donnington has vantage points where you can see almost the whole track making it easier to follow the race. At least, despite the blow to Silverstone, there will still be a British GP.

DC Announces Retirement

By The Editor | July 3, 2008

For those of you who know the Soteria team personally you may be aware that 2 of the team enjoy watching F1 and we both have always enjoyed watching David Coulthard race. So today’s announcement has come as a bit of sad news that David Coulthard has said that he will retire at the end of this racing year as a driver, however he will be staying on at Red Bull Racing as a ‘consultant’, although what that means is anyone’s guess.

Jon and I have been discussing who the new commentators should be for the BBC position when it resumes the coverage of Formula One next year. Jon has said a few times that DC would be an excellent commentator, working with his current manager Martin Brundle that could be the winning team that the BBC need in the commentary box. So if DC can manage the 2 jobs (which I am sure would be able to neatly intersect) it would be a great opportunity!

DC has had 13 wins at the top level and announced his retirement at the scene of 2 of his greatest victories - Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix. I wish David all the best for the future and pray that God would bless him as he goes into a slightly different area of his career!
