Description

A group of kids defend their Maine vacation home from knee-high alien invaders in this adventure comedy for the entire family. When Michigan native Bethany Pearson (Ashley Tisdale) arrives home after a secret outing with her boyfriend (Robert Hoffman), her father, Stuart (Kevin Nealon), decides that it's high time for a family vacation. Packing up the car with wife Hannah (Ashley Boettcher), teenage son Tom (Carter Jenkins), and big sister Bethany in tow, Stuart invites the extended family to join them at the vacation home for some much-needed rest and sets his sights on Maine. Much to Tom's dismay, Bethany's stuck-up boyfriend, Ricky (Hoffman), even manages to wrangle an overnight visit. Shortly after the Pearsons arrive at their sprawling summer home, however, things start to get strange. As dark clouds start to swirl overhead, four glowing objects blast through the sky on a collision course with the Pearsons' roof. But these aren't your typical meteors, because inside dwells tough-talking alien commander Skip, muscle-bound weapons specialist Tazer, lethal female Razor, and geeky four-armed techie Sparks.

Before long, the aliens have taken Ricky over via a powerful mind-control device, and announced their intentions to claim Earth for the 'Zirkonians'. While the adults are completely oblivious to the extraterrestrial threat, the kids fight to save the planet with a little help from Sparks, the alien tech-specialist and one non-hostile invader. John Schultz directs a script penned by scribe Mark Burton (WALLACE AND GROMIT).

You're a kid and you find that your holiday home has been invaded by little grey/green aliens, what do you do? That unlikely situation is the premise for "Aliens In The Attic" a comedy from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment that is now available to rent or own on DVD.

The kids are on holiday with their parents, Uncle and Grandma and discover that there are a short race of aggressive aliens have landed on the roof. These aliens are determined to get to the basement for reasons that become clear later in the film. The aliens also have a weapon that means they can control adult humans and their ultimate goal appears to be taking over the world! Isn't it always?

This film seems to be out of ideas before it has even begun. It's billed as a comedy, but I think there was only one scene that made me chuckle. Having said that it's a pretty funny scene and does need the plot around it, it was funny but not THAT funny. A lot of the story is predictable and it's not helped by the character design, or frankly rather dodgy CGI. There were many things that they could have done with this storyline, but I think this film never explores a lot of it.

There were some reasonable performances turned in by some of the actors, the younger kids were OK. In fact if anything it is the adults that seemed a bit wooden, even the ones that hadn't been shot with the alien mind control device. In fact the one person who rescues this film from being complete doldrums in Doris Roberts (previously Marie in Everybody Loves Raymond) who is the main character in the funniest scene in the film that I mentioned earlier.

With lacklustre performances elsewhere and very little funny humour to speak of, after watching this once this DVD may be joining the aliens in the loft.
